Based in The Barossa Valley, South Australia, Lynka is an emerging abstract figurative artist whose creative practice explores the intimate portrayal of womanhood past, present and evolving. Examining both the vulnerabilities and triumphs of the feminine psyche, Lynka symbolically exercises an aesthetic of restraint with her simplified forms, minimal compositions and muted palette to provoke quiet contemplation within her viewer.
There is great emphasis on fragmentation in the structure of her compositions. A pre-occupation with line and intersecting planes is as distinct in the defining of form as it is in the representation of space. Her conceptual approach to the sculptural formation of her figures by way of palette knife, moulding medium and collage, gently lifts her subject out of the 2D realm. Juxtapositions of fluid curves with static linear elements, awaken tensions that are further heightened by her evocative textures adding a complexity that is both visually arresting, and cognitively stimulating.
“ Raised by an artist mother, I was encouraged from an early age to think beyond convention and to trust intuition over explanation. This naturally led me towards abstraction—a space where meaning remains fluid and each viewer brings their own experience to the work. I experience abstraction as a language in itself, one that speaks and listens even when it appears silent or obscure. It suits my introverted nature, where words don’t always come easily, and offers a sense of refuge within the image. Through the process of making, I pull forms and ideas apart and reassemble them, using the work as a way to better understand both the world and myself. ”
